Glacier_Basin: This valley, east of Bear Lake and north of Longs Peak, was carved by the Bartholf Glacier over 20,000 years ago.
Frank Bartholf was a friend of Abner Sprague and in 1877 claimed the valley as his own (in a somewhat playful manner). Sprague named it Bartholf Park until 1961, when the U.S. Board on Geographic Names changed it to agree with "common usage."#
